Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
The spring 2012 administration of the assessments represents the third year of implementation involving multiple changes within a short period of time; thus, the implementation of grade level standards and the opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned in a standards-based environment is still in the early stages. Based on guidance from the US Department of Education, these results now reflect recalculation using the Ohio Achievement Standards. They underscore the need to continue directing instructional attention to supporting students’ achievement of grade-level expectations.
The Clerc Center is transitioning to the new Common Core State Standards in English/Language Arts and mathematics and is implementing new curriculum aligned with these standards in all classes K-12 during this academic year. We are also monitoring the development of new common assessments by the two federally-funded consortia, the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) and the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and careers (PARCC), and will transition to use of those assessments as they become available, currently projected to be in 2014.
