Remembering the Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Date and Time:
30 January 2014
12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Foster Auditorium

In honor of the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Diversity and Equity for Students, Black Deaf Student Union and the Student Body Government will host a program to commemorate and celebrate the life and legacy of this civil rights leader and his vision of collective works on social justice. Many changes have taken place in America because of the leadership of Dr. King and other great leaders who helped build this country. This annual program affords us all an opportunity to reflect upon the past while seeking hope, determination and an opportunity act upon the promise of the future.

As part of the program, attorney and civil rights advocate, Morris Dees will address how our commitment to justice for all will determine our nation's success in the next century as America becomes more diverse and economic disparity widens. He will discuss how and why he became an attorney and founded the Southern Poverty Law Center. He will talk about some of the center's more prominent cases and some its new work. He will also touch upon the issue of hate crimes and the need to teach tolerance, love and respect for one another.

Come enjoy a program filled with educational information, fun, and reflection. We wish to share this special event with you. Community involvement will help make this year's event a success. Light refreshments will be served after the program.
