ASL Diagnostic and Evaluation Services (ASL-DES) is in need of volunteers for mock ASLPIs that will take place on the following dates:

Sunday, August 10
Friday, August 15
Saturday, August 16
Sunday, August 17

If you are interested in volunteering, please email ASLPI@gallaudet.edu. ASL-DES will assign you a 20-25 minute time slot. To thank participants for their time and contribution to the training program, each volunteer will receive a gift certificate.

Purpose of Mock Interviews:
Mock interviews are part of a larger training/retraining program. One section of the training is focused on interviewing skills, strategies and techniques, and maintaining those skills. Conducting "live" practice interviews is extremely beneficial to the interviewer. The mock interview will be video recorded, but solely for the purpose of providing feedback to the interviewer. No result will be generated or provided to the volunteer from the mock interview. This is purely a training tool.

What is the ASLPI?
The ASLPI is a holistic language evaluation used to determine global ASL proficiency. The basic precept in this type of evaluation is to find out through a communicative exchange what an individual can do with the target language at a given point in time. The ASLPI is a 20-30 minute video recorded interactive dialogue between the examinee and the interviewer. The interview is rated by a team of evaluators and examinees are awarded an overall proficiency level on a 0-5 rating scale. An array of topics are discussed during each interview, none of which are intended to test the examinee's knowledge. The purpose of the interview is to capture the examinee's highest ASL proficiency, so the topics discussed are simply a means for capturing that proficiency.
