The Gallaudet University Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning and Ally (LGBTQA) Resource Center is thrilled to announce the third annual Lavender Graduation. Lavender Graduation is Gallaudet University's celebration of and for LGBTQ and Ally graduating students. Attendees celebrate the end of the academic year, recognize student successes, and acknowledge students' unique experiences at Gallaudet. It is a time to bring the Gallaudet LGBTQA community together and share in our history and progress with friends and supportive allies. Through this celebration, LGBTQA students may conclude their experiences at Gallaudet on a positive note, with encouragement to continue their connections to our university as contributing alumni and mentors to future students.
We are proud to announce that our keynote speaker for this year's Lavender Graduation is Dr. E. Lynn Jacobowitz. Dr. Jacobowitz is co-founder and Director of ASL Rose, a Deaf-owned publishing company, and was previously a faculty member in the Gallaudet University Department of ASL and Deaf Studies. Additional remarks will be made by Dr. Barry Bergen, Chair of the Department of History, Philosophy, Religion, and Sociology. Graduating student Rachel Bass will present the student keynote address. Due to limited space, attendance is by invitation only.
This year's Lavender Graduation was planned by Dr. Cara A. Miller, LGBTQA Resource Center Coordinator; Delia Lozano-Martinez, Program Coordinator of Keeping the Promise: Latin@ Students; and student paraprofessionals Brooke Stanfield, '15, and Mindy Enriquez, '16, of the Office of Diversity and Equity for Students.
