Graduate assistant for VL2 wanted

Job Announcement: Graduate Assistant Position Open at Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2)

VL2 is a Science of Learning Center (SLC) on Visual Language and Visual Learning, one of six SLCs funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and is hosted by Gallaudet University. NSF established the Science of Learning Centers to support interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research that presents new lines of thinking and inquiry into the science of learning.  The purpose of the Science of Learning Center on "Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2)" is to advance fundamentally the science of learning related to how aspects of human higher cognition are realized through one of our most central senses, vision.

Wanted: Motivated graduate student with strong communication and organization skills and fluency in both ASL and English to work with VL2's Research to Translation managers.

Seeking students who are in masters or doctoral program with:

  • Strong writing skills
  • Good time management
  • Be able to assist the managers in a variety of communications material, especially website content management systems and social media sites

Additional experience and skills desired:

  • Experience in writing and/or editing for publications
  • Minimal experience in layout design and website management skills
  • Knowledgeable with Adobe CS6, and video editing software.

Specific responsibilities:

Help with maintain updates on VL2 website, VL2 social media sites, and VL2 projects; Work in a team to manage VL2 communications, which involve development and distribution of newsletters, mailing lists; And will focus on collecting and writing content.

Responsibilities may also include assisting in IRB proposals, research studies, data collection and analysis, research translation and publications (such as VL2 Research Briefs).

Graduate Assistant will report to VL2's Digital Innovation and Media Strategies Manager and VL2's Research and Education Translation Manager.

Pay: $20 per hour, up to 20 hours a week.
