  • 07/15/2017: LGBTQA Resource Center staff, with support from offices, units, and campus departments affiliated with the Transgender Task Force, complete Gallaudet University's profile in the Campus Pride Index.
  • 05/16/2017: Discussions regarding Field House and inclusion of transgender students, staff, and faculty.
  • 03/24/2017: LGBTQA Resource Center staff meet with staff in Office of Residence Life and Housing to benchmark and advise on best practices in transgender-inclusive policies and procedures.
  • 1/11/2017: Registrar's Office in process of revising forms to reflect best practices in higher education relevant to data collection re: gender identity. (SSN and/or gender markers will be removed from forms for which this information is not mandatory). Students, staff, and faculty with questions should contact Kai Gagnon.
  • 12/13/2016: LGBTQA Resource Center Coordinator meeting with Office of Campus Design and Planning re: exterior bathroom signage for walls outside the men's and women's multi-stall restrooms and gender inclusive single-use restrooms in HMB.
  • Fall Semester 2016: Continued collaboration between LGBTQA Resource Center and Admissions Office to refer prospective LGBTQA students to LGBTQA Resource Center for additional information as needed on support services and on-campus resources.
  • Fall Semester 2016: LGBQA and trans student leaders involved in collaboration with LGBTQA Resource Center and SW752 course ("Macro Policy") to revise campus-wide Gender and Sexuality Training with multicultural orientation.
  • 12/12/2016: LGBTQA Resource Center correspondence with Student Health Services (cc: to Transgender Task Force Healthcare/Benefits Working Group) regarding support in expanding scope of SHS services to students seeking transition-related support.
  • 11/18/2016: Transgender Awareness Week the focus of monthly LGBTQA Brown Bag Lunch programming
  • 11/17/2016: LGBTQA Resource Center Gender and Sexuality Training presentation (delivered by trans student and staff leaders on campus) provided to Peer Advisors in Office of Residence Life and Housing
  • 11/17/2016: Transgender Awareness Week Panel (November 17) sponsored by Residence Life and Housing Peer Advisors; Rainbow Society; Delta Zeta; and LGBTQA Resource Center.
  • 10/27/2016: Name Change/Technology/Safety Working Group continues to work with DPS, Title IX, and LGBTQA Resource Center to follow up on protocols for name change policy as pertains to needs of transgender students.
  • 10/2016: Transgender Task Force email address created.
  • 9/20/2016: Follow-up: Residence Life and Housing Working Group ("Campus Pride Index: National LGBTQ-Friendly Benchmarks and Standards for Inclusion In Higher Education" housing-related self-assessment shared with Director, Residence Life and Housing); Name Changes/Safety/Technology Working Group on ensuring staff awareness and compliance with chosen name use on student identification cards
  • 9/9/2016: LGBTQA Resource Center presentation, with ODES support, at English Language Institute (ELI) Town Hall, with background and orientation to gender-inclusive restrooms on campus

  • 07/7/2016: LGBTQA Resource Center provides "Admissions/Financial Aid" Guidelines on supporting transgender students.
  • 7/06/2016: Bathroom/Locker Room/Athletic Facilities Working Group Update:
    • Gender-inclusive restroom signs will be delivered on campus 7/28; installation to occur shortly after.

  • 06/08/2016: Gallaudet University Title IX Office Update:
    • In collaboration with the University Transgender Task Force and LGBTQA Resource Center, Title IX office issues campus-wide email alerting faculty and staff to the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education "Dear Colleague Letter" with guidance on supporting transgender students in institutions of higher education receiving Title IX funding.

    • Identifying curricula that address transgender inclusion in classrooms.
  • 03/11/2016: Healthcare/Benefits Working Group updates:
    • Exploring HR's capacity/responsibility to provide health insurance info. to employees; incumbent upon employees to research trans-inclusive plans for themselves
    • Exploring possibility of CAPS' maintaining list of trans-friendly doctors, list (opt-in) of trans employees willing to discuss experiences with healthcare providers.
    • SHS can refer students to CAPS as appropriate; will make trans health-related brochures from American College Health Association (ACHA) available for students.
  • 03/11/2016: Bathroom/Locker Rooms/Athletic Facilities Working Group update:
    • Completed three walk-around campus tours (HMB, Library, SLCC, JSAC, Dawes, Fowler, Kendall, Chapel Hall, College Hall) to identify single-stall bathrooms for gender-inclusive signage. Some bathrooms inaccessible to public.
    • Currently gathering feedback from campus constituents over restroom signage.
    • Campus Design and Planning will obtain estimates.
    • Campus map of trans-inclusive restrooms to be designed contingent upon signage installation.
  • 03/03/2016: Anti-Discrimination/Credo Working Group update:
    • Apportioning short-term and long-term goals and exploring doable timelines for recommendation and implementation of gender inclusive language in policies.
