First 100 Days in Office Action Plan

The overarching goal of the "First 100 Days" is to understand Gallaudet's past and current diversity initiatives/efforts that will serve as the foundation for building a sustainable, equitable and diversity-friendly campus climate that fosters success for all members of the Gallaudet community especially its students.

Goal #1: Communicate with constituents.

  1. President/Provost to discuss direction
  2. Members of President's Cabinet
  3. Faculty Chair Jane Dillehay
  4.  Gallaudet Staff Council (GSC)
  5. Student Body Government
  6. Graduate Student Association
  7. Students of Color organizations
  8. New Signers/HUG/Graduate Students
  9. GLBT organization
  10. Religious organizations
  11. International students
  12. Alumni
  13. Town Hall Meeting (State of Diversity at Gallaudet)
  14. University Council
  15. VLOG to community

Goal # 2: Establish communication strategies to keep the community informed

  1. Set up a electronic system for receiving emails for Office of CDO
  2. Create an interactive website
  3. Share communication plan with community

Goal #3: Understand how the strategic planning/budget allocation process can support University diversity goals and initiatives.

  1. Read strategic planning documents
  2. Participate in appropriate planning committees
  3. Develop budget for Office

Goal #4: Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of Gallaudet's Office of Diversity and Equity for Students

  1. Understand the operational structure of ODES
  2. Assess the effectiveness of ODES programs
  3. Determine how ODES can better serve students
  4. Analyze allocation of resources to ODES for students

Goal #5: Assess current status of diversity initiatives on campus

  1. Meet with deans and executive directors to learn about their diversity initiatives
  2. Meet with faculty curriculum development committees
  3. Identify current research related to diversity
  4. Become familiar with status of fund raising for diversity initiatives (Meet with Tamar, Audrey and Lynne Murray related to development and grant, funding opportunities.)

Goal #6: Become knowledgeable about existing reports and studies related to diversity Gallaudet.

  1. Review climate studies done within the last 10 years
  2. Review reports of diversity consultants
  3. Read final reports and recommendations of all university-wide diversity Committees over the last 10 years
  4. Meet with Elaine Vance to get a profile of the campus, i.e., by race, gender, disability status, etc. Look at the profile of each academic department, co-curricular programs, and service unit.

Goal #7: Identify current issues related to campus diversity on/off campus

  1. Host communication/language dialogues
  2. Identify bilingualism issues at Gallaudet
  3. Meet with stakeholders
  4. Review Gallaudet reports and studies for the last 10 years
  5. Initiate networking with higher education institutes and organizations involved with diversity

Goal #8: Analyze diversity resources

  1. Human resources
  2. Fiscal resources

Goal #9: Establish a University Diversity Committee to do the following:

  1. Define what diversity means for Gallaudet University
  2. Establish short-term goals
  3. Establish long-term goals
  4. Assess the educational needs of the campus
  5. Provide input on the design of a university-wide diversity plan
Goal #10: Host a 100-Day in Office event to update the community on the First 100 Days and roll out future plans.
