Public safety officers and dispatchers are on duty 24 hours each day, 365 days a year. Officers patrol the campus on foot, on bicycles, and in marked and unmarked vehicles. There is a supervisor and/or assistant supervisor on duty during each shift. Gallaudet's public safety officers and supervisors are considered "special police officers" and are commissioned by the District of Columbia. They have the same powers as law enforcement officers to arrest without a warrant for offenses committed on the Gallaudet campus. They may also arrest outside of Gallaudet if they are in fresh pursuit for an offense committed on campus. Dispatchers are certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch with specialized training in response to police, fire, and medical emergencies.
