Short Biography

Currently, Sarah Houge is an adjunct faculty in the International Development Master's Program at Gallaudet University. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with an M.Ed in Special (Deaf) Education and worked as a teacher/program coordinator in the U.S. and abroad. Inspired by her experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer and Frontrunners International Leadership Program participant, Ms. Houge enrolled in the International Development M.A. program at Gallaudet University. Upon graduation in 2010, she worked in ten countries with the World Federation of the Deaf on their Human Rights and Capacity Building Project in West/Central Africa. Ms. Houge has also collaborated with grassroots organizations including Global Deaf Connection, focusing on deaf education mentoring, and Global Reach Out with youth programs. She participated in exchange programs through Mobility International USA, working to improve conditions for women and girls with disabilities, as well as Discovering Deaf Worlds' EMPOWER Program through the U.S. Department of State. Most recently, Ms. Houge completed a consultancy for UNICEF, where she compiled the first research report on the Deaf community in the nation of Bhutan.
