Rowena Winiarczyk (Rue)
Rowena Winiarczyk (Rue) received her M.A. in International Development in 2010. During her graduate studies at Gallaudet, she had her practicum at Machik, an organization that builds a community-based education in rural Tibet. At Machik, Rue conducted a situational analysis of people with disabilities in China and Tibet, and organized a resource file on organizations of people with disabilities in China and Tibet. She also performed a situational analysis of Deaf Malaysians during her 4-month internship in Malaysia for the Center of International Programs, the University of Science Malaysia and the Malaysian Federation of the Deaf.
Rue currently works at the Gallaudet Research Institute as a Research Associate and works on several projects "on the side." Several of her previous projects included the coordination of a project expanding the software for deaf children between 4 and 10 years old developed by the Center for the Development of Inclusion Technologies (CEDETI) in Chile, grant writing for a project on capacity building of DeafBlind people in Nepal, and consultation on organizational capacity building in Vietnam.
