Beth Easterling holds a Ph.D in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology from The University of Tennessee. Her areas of interest include families and crime/incarceration, women and crime, punishment and society, social stratification, military sociology, family sociology, and applied sociology. With a background in applied sociology, Dr. Easterling searches for practical, policy, and programming implications in her academic research. She has published work on sociological and criminological issues in several peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Marriage and Family, and has presented her research at a variety of regional and national conferences.

She enjoys teaching introductory level courses as they provide the opportunity to introduce students from a variety of disciplines, backgrounds, and interests to sociology and criminology. She also enjoys teaching upper level courses as they allow her to discuss specific sociological and criminological topics of interest in detail among sociologists/criminologists-to-be.

When not doing research or teaching, Dr. Easterling enjoys spending time with her daughter, her husband (in the Marine Corps), and her two dogs.
