Ms. Shird received her M.A. from Gallaudet University in Mental Health Counseling and her B.S. in Psychology from Howard University. She has worked as an Addiction Counselor at Deaf Addiction Services at Maryland (DASAM), a mental health counselor in private practice, and a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor at the Georgia Department of Labor. Ms. Shird was appointed by the Georgia Governor to be on the Deaf and Hearing Impairment Commission. She worked at Gallaudet University as a Mental Health Counselor form 2002-2007 and returned in January 2009. Ms. Shird internship experience includes working at Wake County Child and Adult Mental Health Center, Deaf Service Unit at Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Hospital, and the Mental Health Center at Gallaudet University.
