Short Biography

Danilo Torres earned his master's degree in deaf education from Gallaudet University, his bachelor's degree in mathematics from State University New York, and his associate in applied science in computer and accounting. Danilo is skilled in the areas of international education, interpreting, photography and videography, and web design.

Danilo has taught American Sign Language (ASL), English, mathematics, and cross-cultural communication for international students in Gallaudet's English Institute Language. He has also taught ASL to hearing people since 1994 in a variety of school settings in the New York City area. Danilo has a strong background in Mexican, Colombian, and other Spanish deaf cultures and languages, as well as American deaf culture and language. He is president of the Latino Deaf and Hard of Hearing Association of the Metropolitan DC area and founder of the "Sordos de Colombia" (Deaf Colombia) website and Facebook page.

As an advocate for access to higher education for deaf students worldwide, Danilo works with many administrators on and off campus to build partnerships that will benefit deaf people, including Universidad Especializada de las Américas UDELAS in the Republic of Panama, which has signed an agreement with Gallaudet.

Danilo coordinates RSIA's learning quality team in setting agendas for international visitors and learning agreements for international special students, visiting scholars, and researchers who study on campus. He provides ongoing support for student scholars in the World Deaf Leadership program, assists with Gallaudet's strategic partnerships in Panama and China, and plans study abroad missions with the University's strategic overseas partners. He also assists with planning and implementing websites and web-based work tools, manages the World Deaf Information Resource Program, and facilitates Spanish language communications for the office.
