Dwight is well known for organizing special events and conferences. In 1998 and 2000 he was the chair of the Student Life Conference at Gallaudet University designed for student development professionals who work in the residence halls at schools for deaf and hard of hearing students. He served on the 1980 NAD Convention Committee, led the planning of Deaf Way II as the vice-chair in 2002, and is currently on the Board of the Youth Leadership Camp Alumni Foundation.

Dwight has always been involved in and a strong supporter of deaf sports. Dwight was the U.S. team director at the Winter World Games for the Deaf in both Norway, 1987, and Canada, 1991. He was the ski team leader for the Winter World Games for the Deaf in Finland, 1995, Switzerland, 1999, and Sweden, 2003. He was also the CEO for the 16th Winter Deaflympics in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2007 and previously served on the board for the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf.
