1098-T Tax Information

NOTE: Gallaudet University cannot provide you or your tax advisor with tax advice.  You need to contact your tax preparer to determine eligibility for the credits and how to calculate them.

Gallaudet University must provide the (amounts paid) and (scholarship or grant) figures to help determine the amount of qualified expenses you can claim on your IRS Form 8863. You must review your payment records to determine the actual qualified expenses paid. Remember that qualified amounts paid by student loans may be eligible for these purposes. Scholarships and grants received may reduce your eligible payment amounts. See IRS Publication 970 for information on determining the amount of your qualified expenses paid. The 1098-T forms will be available online on January 31, 2024. To receive your 1098T online, you must opt-in to receiving electronic statements only. Please see below for specific instructions on obtaining access and opting in. For additional information, visit the IRS website. The 1098-T forms will not be sent to those students whose eligible fees were waived.

An undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in Spring 2023, Summer 2023, or Fall 2023 qualifies for the 1098-T form. ELI students do not qualify for the 1098-T form.

ACCESSING YOUR 1098-T

Gallaudet has partnered with ECSI to offer you the opportunity to receive your 1098-T Tuition Statement electronically this year. If you would like to receive your 1098-T form electronically, please give your consent by following the link provided below and following the step-by-step instructions. 1098-Ts will be provided by the end of January 2021. If electronic consent is not received by January 1, 2024, the 1098-T will be mailed to the current address on file.

• Online delivery provides access to the form 1098-T earlier than the traditional mailing process.
• Online delivery eliminates the chance that the 1098-T will get lost, misdirected or delayed during delivery, or misplaced once the student receives it.

• Students can receive their 1098-T form while traveling or away from their home address.
