About Us

The First Year Experience (FYE) program provides first-year students with a comprehensive learning experience that fosters transition to college, academic success, personal growth, and social responsibility.

  • FYE offers the First Year Seminar (GSR 101) course for all new students as part of the Foundations semester of the General Studies Program.
  • FYE offers a College Success Seminar (FYE 195) to students in developmental courses.
  • FYE offers a leadership seminar (FYE 310) for upper-class students who serve as Peer Leaders in all GSR 101 and FYE classes.
  • In addition to courses, the FYE program collaborates with Student Success Program's summer JumpStart program to provide a seamless transition into college academics.
  • As part of the co-curriculum, FYE leads the Common Reading Program, selecting a common reading with the involvement of a committee of faculty and staff and integrating this common reading across the curriculum and co-curriculum to create a campus-wide learning experience.
