Non-Voting Representation on the Board of Trustees
The Gallaudet University Board of Trustees recognizes the importance of having the participation of the university's Gallaudet Staff Council (GSC) in the governing process in a way that their expertise, views, interest, and concerns can be effectively shared.
Accordingly, the Board has agreed to include a member of the GSC serving as the staff representative on a Board committee. The GSC will communicate the decision to serve on the intended committee with the Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees on an annual basis.
The Committee may decide not to include the GSC representative during an executive session where it is desirable or advisable to do so.
The GSC normally has its election of its Chair during the month of July on even-numbered years. At that time, the GSC Chair shall nominate for a two year term concurrently with the GSC Chair, a GSC member, who shall be confirmed by the Council of Representatives, who will serve as the GSC Representative to the intended committee of the Board of Trustees.
In the event the elected GSC representative is unable to complete his/her two-year term, the interim vacancy shall be filled by another GSC member, appointed by the Council of Representatives, and serving as the replacement GSC representative for the unexpired portion of the term.
The GSC representative shall in this role serve and act solely as a representative of the University Staff and shall be responsible for ensuring that their views and interests expressed while serving on the committee are representative of the University Staff and not those of the individual GSC representative.
The GSC representative shall accept and abide by the Code of Conduct of the Board of Trustees.
