Computer purchases at Gallaudet are conducted twice a year to maximize purchasing power of the university. As of 2011, the dates are May and November. On average, the savings are 15% for Dell computers, and 4% for Apple.
The IT Service Desk maintains an inventory of computers that departments can purchase at times other than the two annual bulk orders. Alternatively, the IT Service Desk will provide a loaner for an office or employee if there are no available computers to sell.
Departments are not allowed to purchase computers or other equipment with their purchase cards. Equipment other than computers must be ordered with a purchase order or check request. Tablet and mobile devices currently do not fall under the computer bulk order process.
All computer orders outside of the regularly scheduled bulk order cycles and “special” needs are reviewed and approved by the GTS executive director, Budget organizations for grants are exempt.
