Article I - Purpose
Section 1. Name
The name of this organization shall be Gallaudet Staff Council (GSC).
Section 2. Mission Statement
Gallaudet Staff Council (GSC) exists to foster and enhance communications between the staff and the Kendall Green community; to provide a forum for discussing and defining the role of staff in the Kendall Green Community; to represent and advocate their concerns within the Kendall Green community and District of Columbia to serve as a resource for inquires and requests; to advise and make recommendations on existing and proposed in A & O Manual; and to ensure inclusion of staff on University committees.
GSC communicates regularly with the University's administrations. GSC's responsibilities include:
1.2.1 Receive, review and respond to the ideas, opinions, problems, concerns and global grievances of staff employees, and consider other matters as appropriate;
1.2.2 Provide a forum where common concerns and issues among the staff regarding to policy and regulations issues can be discussed;
1.2.3 Report regularly to both staff and administration;
1.2.4 Meet regularly with University administrators to discuss reports and recommendations, and to collaborate in achieving improvements;
1.2.5 Organize and incorporate opinion and other information into reports, and formulate recommendations for action, changes, and solutions as required.
In summary, the role of the council is to resolve staff concerns and the administration of the views of staff employees on a wide range of topics affecting overall staff welfare or university's operations.
Section 3. Meetings
Regularly scheduled meetings of the council may be held monthly. A regularly scheduled meeting of the council may be cancelled or postponed at the discretion of the chair.
1.3.1 The chair shall call a special meeting of the council upon the written petition of a majority of the voting members.
1.3.2 A simple majority of the voting membership of the council shall be considered a quorum for the purpose of conducting business.
1.3.3 Attendance at council meetings is not restricted to members. Any staff employee may attend council meetings unless the chair calls for a private meeting closed to public.
1.3.4 Supervisor shall allow release time for council members in order for such members to attend regular, emergency and Town Hall meetings without requiring make up lost times.
Section 4. Address to council
Any person wishing to address the council shall contact the chair for approval. The chair will then contact the corresponding secretary to place the person on the agenda for the next meeting if deemed appropriate, in accordance with the responsibilities and mission of the GSC.
