Amy Stevens brought her 20 years' experience in journalism, book publishing, graphic design and video production to Gallaudet University. Since 2009 she has taught art and design in interdisciplinary courses that also focus on ethics and social responsibility. Students have explored the topics of civil rights and women's body image in media through the lens of art and ethics. They produce artwork that is often displayed on campus.
As coordinator for General Studies, Ms. Stevens works alongside faculty in developing interdisciplinary courses that align with learning outcomes in order to provide engaging courses.
She has served as a member of the Linda K. Jordan Gallery committee, a steering committee member of the Foundation of Excellence program, and a member of the WORLDEAF Cinema Festival committee. Ms. Stevens is a board member of International Deaf Partnership, a non-profit organization that empowers deaf people across cultures.
