Through the warm welcome and encouragement extended by the Deaf communities of Ocala and Gainesville, Florida, Jeff began his foray into the world of Deaf people and into the world of interpreting.
He has obtained from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) his Comprehensive Skills Certificate (CSC), Certificate of Interpretation (CI), and Certificate of Transliteration (CT). Jeff began interpreting professionally at the University of Florida, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in English Literature in 1987 - anyone who knows Jeff, knows what an avid Gator fan he is. In October of 1987, Jeff moved to Washington, D.C. and continued his interpreting career at Gallaudet University and joined the Gallaudet Interpreting Service (GIS) Interpreting Team in January of 1992. He was awarded his Master's Degree in Linguistics from Gallaudet University in that same year. Jeff assumed responsibilities as the interpreting manager for GIS in 2009 and currently holds the position of interim director of interpreting.
Throughout his career he has served as an RID rater, a member of the RID Diversity Task Force, a mediator under the RID Ethical Practices System (EPS), and a Diversity Fellow to Gallaudet University.
He currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia with his partner Jim.
