Welcome from the Dean!
You are beginning your graduate studies at an exciting time in Gallaudet’s history. We have embraced a our mission and vision, and we are going forward boldly into our future guided by Gallaudet's Strategic Plan 2010-2015 . While Gallaudet has always been a bilingual community, our bilingualism is now a major part of our institutional mission. We are learning about it in an open and intentional manner. We are also striving to become a truly multicultural university.
And what better place to learn about multiculturalism than here in Washington, DC? If you are new to this area, you can anticipate a rich and rewarding experience in the years ahead. Washington is a cosmopolitan and wonderfully diverse city that offers it all: history, culture, education, politics, and, as a bonus, excellent entertainment and restaurants of all kinds.
Our nation’s capital and Gallaudet University are connected in a multitude of ways and you will enjoy everything the city and the mid-Atlantic region have to offer. There are also numerous opportunities to contribute to the city that has for so long been home to this fine institution of higher learning, and I urge you to take the opportunity to become involved in the larger community.
So welcome to Gallaudet, welcome to Washington, DC … we’re excited that you will be joining us here.
Dr. Carol J. Erting, Dean
