Gallaudet University Regional Interpreter Education Center was re-awarded the Interpreter Training Program grant for 2010- 2015 from the US Department of Education Rehabilitation Services Administration. We look forward to working with stakeholders, collaborators, and associate regional /national Interpreter Education Centers during this second year of the 2010 - 2015 grant cycle. The Gallaudet University Regional Interpreter Education Center (GURIEC) is funded by the Department of Education, Rehabilitation Service Administration to provide and sponsor activities that will increase the number and diversity of qualified interpreters. To effectively accomplish this task and to maximize resources, expertise, funding, and leadership, GURIEC has joined forces with five other RSA-funded Centers across the United States to create the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers (NCIEC) and is working to build partner networks with interpreter education service providers, practitioners, educators, and consumers locally, regionally and nationally. The states within the GURIEC region are Alabama, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Areas of Focus The National Consortium is involved in many activities in service to interpreters and interpreter-related programs, and work teams have been established through the National Consortium to focus on specific priorities with specific end-goals. Areas of focus include but are not limited to Deaf Advocacy Training, Interpreting Shortage, Deaf Interpreting, Legal Interpreting, Diversity, Healthcare Interpreting, Mentoring, and Interpreting Via Video. |
