Health insurance for regular status employees is offered through the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program. FEHB offers a variety of health insurance plans, including fee-for-service, HMO, CDHP, and HDHP. The cost is shared by the employee and Gallaudet University.
All FEHB plans cover flu shots at no cost to their members. CDC recommends an annual flu vaccination for everyone over the age of 6 months. There is also no cost sharing for preventative care, including prenatal care, healthy newborn visits, hearing and vision screening for children, diabetes, cholesterol, osteoporosis screening for adults, and breast, colon, cervical cancer screenings for adults. Furthermore, there is no cost sharing for routine immunizations for children and adults. Members can also receive tobacco cessation counseling and medication at no cost.
Employees can enroll, change, or cancel their health insurance plans during Open Season. However, certain changes are allowed outside of Open Season if employees experience qualifying life events. In order to make any changes, please fill out the FEHB Enrollment form (SF-2809) and submit it to the Benefits Office.

FEHB health insurance comparison charts have been created for Gallaudet employees. The benefits are based on using the preferred network (in-network). The Human Resources Services take measures to ensure the completeness, accuracy and usefulness of the charts. Although this information was completed with care, it is not a guarantee of benefits. It is important to refer to the actual brochures on the insurance plan websites (provided on the charts).
