How many hours am I expected to work each day?

Full-time employees are expected to work eight hours each day, five days per week. Most work schedules run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. These schedules provide a 30-minute, non-paid lunch break.

Can I have an hour for lunch?

If your supervisor approves, your schedule may be adjusted so that you still work eight hours each day, but receive an hour for lunch. For example, if your work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., you may have a one-hour lunch break.

Do we get 15-minute breaks in the morning and afternoon?

No.

Are there four-day work weeks?

No.

What is "flextime?"

As long as the needs of the department can be met, occasionally a supervisor may approve a schedule that will enable an employee to arrive earlier or later in the morning. Flextime arrangements can be approved by the supervisor as long as employees (except those following a non-standard work week) are present between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and continue to work eight hours each day. For example, an employee could work from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a 30-minute, non-paid lunch break, or from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 30-minute non-paid lunch break.

Can I take classes during the workday?

As a general rule, classes, other than sign language classes, should be taken outside of the regular work day. Occasionally, a flextime schedule can be arranged to accommodate classes.
