Short Biography

Paul Harrelson is an instructor in the Department of Interpretation.

Mr. Harrelson is the BAI field placement coordinator and teaches undergraduate professional practice courses including INT346 Discourse and Field Applications I, INT455 Discourse and Field Observation II, and INT494 Senior Internship and skill development courses including INT453 Interpreting Interaction: Business and Government. He has taught graduate courses such as INT736 Professional Practice I and INT746 Interpreting Business and Government Discourse.

Mr. Harrelson has been a professional sign language interpreter in private practice for over 20 years. Nationally certified by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (CI/CT, 1996-2008 and NIC-A, 2009-present), he interprets in a wide variety of settings including legal, education, government, and business in both the United States and abroad.

Mr. Harrelson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision from Gallaudet University and a Certificate in Sculpture and Ceramics from the Corcoran College of Art and Design. He is currently a PhD student in Interpretation at Gallaudet. He lives in Capitol Hill in Washington, DC with Erin, his wife and two pugs, Ezra and Nola. He is particularly proud to have been raised in New Orleans.
