Erica Alley, MA, NIC-Advanced, holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester in American Sign Language and English, as well as a Master’s degree from Gallaudet University in the field of Interpretation. Erica is currently working toward her Ph.D. in Interpretation at Gallaudet University and is a staff interpreter at Gallaudet Interpreting Service. Her research focuses on remote interpreting.

Ongoing Research:

Erica’s research focuses on exploring video remote ASL/English interpreting, including Video Relay Service (VRS) as well as Video Remote Interpreting (VRI). She has conducted studies on “Deaf Perspectives on the Use of ASL and Contact Sign when Using Video Relay Service” as well as carried out research “Exploring Remote Interpreting” through investigating similarities and differences in remote spoken language vs signed language interpreting.
"Interpreting Strategies used by Trilingual VRS Interpreters" with Dr. David Quinto-Pozos and co-investigators Kristie Casanova de Canales and Rafael Treviño. This study acknowledges the variety of linguistic challenges that face trilingual interpreters working in Video Relay Service and investigates interpreters’ methods for approaching this work.

Research internship:
