Circulation Policies for Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area

Gallaudet University participates in the academic Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area. This consortium is not the same as the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC) which is a library cooperative effort. However, several of the universities that participate in the Consortium of Universities are also members of the WRLC.

Gallaudet undergraduate students who are cross-registered for a course at another Consortium of Universities institution have borrowing privileges at that university's library for the duration of the course.

Students from the other universities who are cross-registered for a course at Gallaudet University have borrowing privileges at Gallaudet University Library for the duration of the course.

The Consortium of Universities members who are not WRLC members are Howard University and the University of Maryland, College Park.

Howard University

Requirements for cross-registered Gallaudet students:

  • A copy of the registration form, brought to the Gallaudet Service Desk
  • HOWARD UNIV/UNIV OF MARYLAND CROSS-REGISTRATION CARD APPLICATION form.
A full-time staff member will check their Gallaudet record and prepare a card for them to take to Howard's Library.

Requirements for cross-registered Howard students:
If a Howard student who is cross-registered at Gallaudet wants to borrow books here, that student must go to Howard's Circulation Desk and get a card from Howard's Library to bring here. We will put a barcode on that card and register the person in our system, using the expiration date written on the card.

If a student from Gallaudet is not cross-registered at Howard, he or she cannot borrow books from Howard's Library. There are no reciprocal borrowing privileges for faculty or staff unless they are cross-registered students. Conversely, if students, faculty, and staff from Howard are not cross-registered at Gallaudet, they cannot borrow books from Gallaudet's Library.
