Biographical Sketch

Edwin James Parks was born on May 25, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois. He lost his hearing at the age of 14. He entered Gallaudet College in 1955 and was graduated with B.A. Degree in 1957. He won an award The Charles R. Ely Award. He works as a research chemist at the National Bureau of Standards following his graduation from Gallaudet College. He received a M.S. Degree in 1971 and also earned a Ph.D. Degree in 1979 at American University.

He has become recognized as an authority in the area of materials chemistry. Over 30 research publications are to his credit. He has exhibited in his work also the driving force that earned him a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in chemistry at American University in 1979.

He was honored with an Outstanding Handicapped Federal Employee of the Year Award in 1982. Mr. Parks has co-founded and chaired the Deaf-Hearing Society of Montgomery County, Maryland, to encourage social meetings and communication between the deaf and hearing communities in monthly meetings.

He also was honored with an Amos Kendall Award by Gallaudet College Alumni Association in 1983.

Scope and Content

The Edwin James Parks Collection consists of his two theses he worked on for a Ph.D. Degree.
