Mathematics Department

The Mathematics Department at MSSD offers a full range of courses that address a wide range of student abilities, interests, and postsecondary aspirations. The courses are designed to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and reasoning at all levels. Mathematical concepts and skills are taught and integrated with real world topics when feasible. Previously learned concepts are integrated with new concepts in each course. Students are encouraged to apply mathematical knowledge and concepts to non-routine situations.

In math classes at MSSD, students develop the ability to identify and analyze patterns, logic and critical thinking skills, the ability to see relationships, and problem-solving skills. These skills, coupled with math practice, help strengthen students' abilities in reasoning and organizing complicated situations into clear and logical steps. Students are expected to describe problems and justify their solutions using appropriate mathematical terminology.
