Gallaudet University President T. Alan Hurwitz has been selected to receive the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District II Chief Executive Leadership Award for 2013.

The Chief Executive Leadership Award recognizes a member institution president, chancellor, or campus administrator for outstanding efforts in promoting the understanding and support of education. The winner demonstrates the ability to create vision and inspire others, establishes a positive image of his/her institution's stature in the community, and encourages innovation and risk-taking among employees. The winner also must be known as an active and supportive participant in significant advancement efforts.

Dr. Hurwitz and the award winners in other categories will be honored during the CASE District II annual conference in Pittsburgh from March 3 to 5, 2013.

“I am honored and humbled to receive the Chief Executive Leadership Award,” said President Hurwitz. “As an educator for more than 40 years, I have always strived to advance each institution I have worked for and to enhance the educational experiences for students. I’d like to thank the wonderful students, faculty, and staff at Gallaudet University for their support as we fulfill our mission of giving deaf and hard of hearing students a world-class education in an accessible and bilingual environment.”

CASE provides education professionals in alumni relations, communications, and fund-raising with tools to advance their institutions. District II includes Washington, D.C., Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Ontario, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
