Retention and Student Success

The Office of Retention at Gallaudet University is responsible for providing leadership to the university community and all the key academic and student support programs that play a critical role in supporting student learning and student success. In 2012, the Retention Council, led by the Retention Coordinator, was established with the primary goal of identifying key factors that affect student success and retention within the university community. These key factors are outlined in the GSP Goal B: Retention Strategic Plan which serves as the guiding framework for work of the Retention Council. Strategy leaders of the Retention Council were invited to join based on their leadership and oversight of the key areas outlined in GSP Goal B. The strategy leaders reviewed assessment data to update and revise the GSP Goal B strategies, then developed action plans to reach performance targets. The Retention Council meets regularly throughout the Academic Year to report on the progress of these action plans using assessment data. This information is used to make decisions and recommendations on institutional policy and practice and to align resources towards effective programs and practices having a proven positive impact on retention and graduation efforts.
