Dr. Jerri Lyn Dorminy has been a part of the Gallaudet University community since she enrolled in 1987 as a new student. As with many of our students, Gallaudet was a life-changing experience for her. Her work as a student paraprofessional in a variety of student work experiences , including Resident Advisor, Peer Advisor, Peer Health Advocate, and Head Resident Advisor, shaped her future career goal of working with college students. Earning an M.S. in Administration and Supervision, Jerri Lyn began her work as a Coordinator of Residence Education in the Freshmen residence halls, moved on to become an Academic Advisor and eventually moved over to work in Student Development Programs. While enrolled in doctoral studies at University of Maryland , she continued working with the First Year Experience program as the Orientation Coordinator and as an instructor of the First Year Seminar. During her time with the First Year Experience, she became the program Assessment and Curriculum Coordinator and also became involved as a member of the Honors Council for the Honors Program. Currently, she works in the Office of Academic Quality using her strengths in assessment, institutional effectiveness, strategic planning, and higher education to oversee institutional retention efforts. In May 2013, she graduated from University of Maryland, College Park with her Ph.D. from the School of Education's Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education program.
