Gallaudet Community Relations Council
The Gallaudet Community Relations Council (GCRC) is a not-for-profit organization sponsored by Gallaudet University. It was established in 1975 to address issues of local citizens' concerns about the physical development on the University's campus, and to improve community relations with the programs and activities to enhance community betterment. The council consists of representatives of the University and of organizations and businesses in the Near Northeast Community to address the needs of the University and the local neighborhoods.
Today, the Near Northeast Community, of which the University is a part, is encountering some severe social socio-economic problems that threaten the viability and security of some of our neighborhoods. Therefore, GCRC has revised its mission to broaden its scope of services to make its neighborhoods a better place to live, work and play.
The mission of the Gallaudet Community Relations Council is to continue to support the University and the Near Northeast Community in their endeavors to enhance the quality of life for the population we serve; to foster goodwill, harmony, and unity with local neighborhood organizations and businesses from both the public and private sectors; to encourage neighborhood residents and businesses to take a more active role in the revitalization of their neighborhoods with self determination and self fulfillment; to seek and expansion of support and services offered by the University to help revitalize our neighborhoods; and to promote the strengths of the diversity in our population.
