The Office for Students with Disabilities, known as “OSWD”, gives qualified students with disabilities the opportunity for success through equal access and the means to participate in curricular and extracurricular activities at Gallaudet University. We provide individually tailored, comprehensive disability support services and programs in accordance with Federal and State disability law. We strive to create an inclusive, safe, and respectful environment for all students, and promote awareness and equity for all in our campus community.
OSWD serves students with mental and physical disabilities, including those with visual, neurological, psychological, and learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorders, and chronic illnesses. Other disabilities types are considered upon application. Disabilities may be permanent or temporary.
OSWD is the designated office at Gallaudet University that evaluates disability documentation, determines eligibility for accommodations, and implements reasonable accommodations for enrolled students in accord with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and University policy.
"Independence through equal access" is our goal for every OSWD student.
