Dr. Carmichael has worked as a teacher and coach since 1981. She was a physical education instructor at Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD) and School of Preparatory Studies at Northwest Campus. She also coached women's tennis, was an assistant coach in field hockey, assistant aquatic director, summer recreation director, and coordinator of interns majoring in Recreation and Sports Programming at Gallaudet University.
Currently, Dr. Carmichael is an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Education and Recreation at Gallaudet University. In addition, she is the coordinator of the Recreation and Sports Programming Minor, Scheduler of Physical Education and Recreation courses, and advisor for students majoring in Physical Education and Recreation, and minoring in Recreation and Sports Programming.
