A basic personal Emergency Kit should include:

  • flashlight and extra batteries
  • pager batteries
  • first aid kit
  • non-perishable packaged food
  • bottled water
  • prescription medications
  • an extra set of keys
  • blanket
  • family contact information
  • paper and pencil

In an emergency, you should be sure to have your wallet or purse for identification, emergency funds, prescription medications, and keys. If you are a person with a disability, your kit may require additional items.

A First Aid Kit should include:

  • Sterile adhesive bandages, assorted sizes
  • Tube of petroleum jelly
  • Safety pins, assorted sizes
  • 2-inch sterile roller bandages (3 rolls)
  • Cleansing agent/soap
  • 3-inch sterile roller bandages (3 rolls)
  • Latex gloves (2 pairs)
  • Moistened towelettes
  • Sunscreen
  • Antiseptic
  • 2-inch sterile gauze pads (4-6)
  • Thermometer
  • 4-inch sterile gauze pads (4-6)
  • Tongue depressors (2)
  • Triangular bandages (3)
  • Scissors, tweezers, needle
  • Non-prescription drugs: aspirin, ibuprofen, anti-diarrhea medication, antacid, laxative, Syrup of Ipecac and activated charcoal (both for use if advised by the Poison Control Center.)
