Registrar's Office Mission Statement:

The Mission of the Registrar's Office is to foster student academic progress by ensuring the proper maintenance of academic records from the first contact with student to graduation from the University. The Registrar's Office also facilitates the academic processes for all academic departments and Administration in the academic needs of the University.

Overview Registrar's Office Functions:

Course registration for:

  1. Courses offered on campus
  2. Extension courses
  3. Online courses
  4. Consortium classes through the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area
  • Scheduling of classes, classroom scheduling, room reservations, and final exams
  • Coordinating and processing transfer credits for all transfer students
  • Developing course equivalency documents and articulation agreements with Gallaudet Regional Centers and other schools nationwide
  • Processing readmission applications and second-degree applications of returning students
  • Issuing enrollment verifications, enrollment certifications, and transcripts
  • Maintaining active student records regarding entrance conditions, declaration of a major, progress towards graduation, grade reporting, as well as any academic probations and suspensions - record retention processes and providing confidentiality as determined by FERPA
  • Consulting with the Faculty in the preparation of the Academic Calendar
  • Participating in Integrated Student Information Systems, the PeopleSoft user's group
  • Responding to information requests regarding student information
  • Working collaboratively with other educational departments to determine the status of students and to resolve complex student issues.
  • Collaboration with the University community on policies, programs, and institutional priorities related to equity and diversity.
  • Work with the University Administration to provide all services required for the overall academic integrity, noble endeavors/ challenges and rigors of the University.

Goals

The Goals of the Registrar's Office are to:

  1. Provide all appropriate activities related to course registration for courses offered on campus, extension courses at off campus sites, on-line courses, consortium classes through the consortium of universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area.
  2. Schedule classes, reserve rooms, and schedule all final exams.
  3. Coordinate the evaluation and recording of all course credit for review for transfer in to Gallaudet University for all transfer students.
  4. Coordinate the evaluation and recording of all Advanced Placement courses for transfer and freshman students.
  5. Work with the Associate Dean of Enrollment Management and General Studies to develop course equivalency documents and articulate agreements with Gallaudet University Regional Center partner community colleges and other colleges and universities nationwide.
  6. Process readmission application and second-degree applications of returning students.

  10. Consult with the 'key people' (more like the offices on campus - i.e.: Student Accounts, Campus Activities, Campus Life, Graduate Department, etc) to prepare, implement, and distribute the Academic Calendar.
  11. Participate in the Integrated Student Information Systems [PeopleSoft User's Group] as an active member.
  12. Respond to campus wide information requests regarding student information in compliance with FERPA.
  13. Work collaboratively with other units to determine the academic status of students and assist in resolving complex student issues.
  14. Work with academic advisors and faculty to provide related early alert information about students so that early responses can be provided to increase the likelihood of student retention and student success.
