What happens after you send the Expression of Interest Form?

After you send us the form, we will determine whether or not you are a suitable candidate. Please be aware that the WDL Scholarship is highly competitive and has very specific requirements.

If we determine that you are eligible to apply, we will send you the WDL Scholarship Fund Application directly. You will be required to provide the following supporting documents:

  • Demonstration of financial need.
  • Demonstration of working knowledge of the English language.
  • Demonstration of high academic achievement.Demonstration of active involvement in your deaf community at home.
  • Student records and transcripts.
  • Three letters of recommendation:
    • Two letters from people in your home country who are familiar with your work in the deaf community; and
    • One letter from a person at home or at Gallaudet who is familiar with your academic ability.

Completed applications will be reviewed by the WDL committee. We might interview you on webcam (Skype, Facetime). The WDL committee will then narrow the applicants down to final candidates. A small delegation from Gallaudet may visit the finalists in their country to verify the suitability of the applicant. The choice of the next WDL scholar will be made by April 2017, with studies to begin at Gallaudet in August 2017.
