Short Biography

Emigrated to Portland, Oregon from Phan Thiet, Vietnam at the age of 10 without any written, spoken, or sign language, Thuan attended the Oregon School for the Deaf, Gallaudet University, and the New York University.

A Diversity Fellow for Gallaudet's Office of Diversity and Inclusion, she has been a leader and advocate for the Deaf Community on issues pertaining to race, equity, diversity, inclusion, and leadership with emphasis on Asian Deaf Identity and the challenges of cultural assimilation by presenting on the local, regional, national, and international levels, including college campuses. She has served on the Board of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), as the first female president of the Greater Washington Asian Deaf Association (GWADA), and is the current president of the National Asian Deaf Congress (NADC). She is also the co-chair of the 2013 National Deaf People of Color Conference.
