GSA Mission Statement

The purpose of the Graduate Student Association (GSA) is to serve as a representative body for all graduate students enrolled at Gallaudet University including full-time, part-time, and special status students. An important function of GSA is to represent graduate students that have concerns regarding graduate program directors, department chairs, and deans, as well as other non-academic areas of Gallaudet. GSA also provides graduate student representation to every academic committee. GSA is supported by a portion of the unit fees paid by graduate students. Therefore it is the responsibility of GSA to ensure that all graduate students have an opportunity to take advantage of the services offered. An emphasis is placed on social activities, which include monthly events and special events at the beginning and end of each semester. GSA is also committed to providing graduate students access to current technological equipment.

Structure of GSA

The president and vice president are elected to office for a term of one year by a vote of all graduate students. The election is held in November by the previous administration. It is the responsibility of the President and Vice President to appoint a treasurer and secretary that will serve during the same term. The term begins in January and ends the following December.

GSA's Role in University Governance

The Graduate Student Association participates in numerous councils, committees, and commissions that determine policies that have an impact on graduate students such as:

Town Hall Meetings

GSA regularly holds GSA Town Hall meetings in order to solicit graduate student feedback, opinions, and viewpoints. This is an excellent opportunity to voice your ideas and suggestions for GSA action. These meetings traditionally occur monthly and include reports from various GSA committees. By attending GSA Town Hall meetings, you will keep abreast of issues relevant to graduate life here at Gallaudet.
