World Deaf Leadership

The Gallaudet-Nippon World Leadership (WDL) Scholarship enables deaf and hard of hearing leaders from developing nations to attend Gallaudet University. The WDL Scholarship empowers selected individuals by increasing their knowledge, skills, attitudes, and aspirations through the power of higher education so that they can make significant contributions to their deaf community and nation.

WDL is funded by the Nippon Foundation of Tokyo, Japan. Since making its first award in 2003, 17 WDL scholarships have been awarded.

Sasakawa International Scholarship

The Sasakawa International Scholarship (SIS) Fund provides financial assistance to qualified, deserving, deaf international students who are enrolled in at least their second year of a degree-granting program at Gallaudet University to help ensure they have the financial means to complete their degree and graduate.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be residents of developing countries.

You can read about former SIS recipients here.

Please note that the list of developing countries is updated annually in July by the U.S. Education of the Deaf Act of 1986, as amended.
