English Language Institute

The English Language Institute (ELI) is a sub-unit of the Department of World Languages and Cultures. ELI provides full-time instruction in English as a Second Language, American Sign Language, and cross-cultural studies to international and American deaf and hard of hearing adults.

The Office of Research Support and International Affairs (RSIA) offers a broad range of opportunities for students, faculty, and other individuals at Gallaudet University to apply their knowledge and learning on an international scale.

RSIA also provides unique opportunities for non-degree students, researchers, and other scholars from around the world who wish to come to Gallaudet for short-term studies, to conduct research, or to enhance their educational opportunities by taking advantage of the University's notable resources on Deaf culture.
Undergraduate Programs

Deaf and hard of hearing undergraduate students can choose from a wide variety of majors leading to a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree. The University also admits a small number of hearing, degree-seeking undergraduate students--up to five percent of an entering class. Undergraduate students have the option of designing their own majors, called "self-directed majors," in which they select classes from a variety of departments at Gallaudet.

International Student Services
International Student Services (ISS) welcomes all international students who are entering the globally encompassing environment of Gallaudet University. The main role of ISS is to ease international students' transition to life in the United States and at Gallaudet, and to assist international students who are seeking advice on academic matters, immigration regulations, and other concerns.

Graduate Programs

Graduate programs, open to deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students, include master of arts or master of science degrees, specialist degrees, certificates, and doctoral degrees in a variety of fields involving professional services to deaf and hard of hearing people.
