Request a Campus Tour
Tours begin at the Visitors Center, located in the lobby of the Edward Miner Gallaudet Memorial Building (EMG), at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday-Friday, and last approximately an hour. Each tour is limited to a maximum of 25 people (with some flexibility allowing up to 30, if possible). With advance notice, tours for larger groups may be arranged, depending on availability of staff and student tour guides.
Scheduling a Tour
Tours must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. Scheduling requests are made directly with the Visitors Center by filling out the online request form.
Need an Interpreter?
All tours are conducted in American Sign Language. The Visitors Center provides voice interpreters for hearing visitors at no charge for tours scheduled by appointment. If your tour is arranged under other circumstances and you need the servicesof an interpreter, please give two weeks' advance notice of your visit. If you've made an appointment for an interpreted tour and need to cancel, please provide at least five days' notice.
Individuals who have not arranged a tour are more than welcome to join a tour booked by another group--if there is available space-and when appropriate. For example, groups who commonly book tours in advance include hearing students from elementary schools, or international deaf groups requiring international sign language. Mixing visitors with a huge age or communication disparity can result in a less than optimal tour experience for some visitors. For this reason, discretion is left up to the Visitors Center coordinator to determine whether walk-in visitors can join a scheduled tour.
A self-guided campus tour pamphlet is available at the Visitors Center. This option allows visitors to campus the flexibility to walk around campus on their own and at their leisure to learn about Gallaudet's rich history.
Request an Interpreter (as a Visitor)
Requests for interpreting services may be submitted online using the Interpreter Request Form, or you may print and fax a completed copy of the Non-Gallaudet Clients Interpreter Request Form (download PDF 17KB) or (download MS Word DOC 79KB) to (202) 651-5752.
Prior to requesting interpreting service, please make sure that you are familiar with Gallaudet Interpreting Service's (GIS) policies and have a copy of current rates and cancellation information. Important Information for All Clients
ALL REQUEST FORMS RECEIVED WILL BE PROCESSED AS CONTRACTS FOR SERVICE. PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS ARE ANSWERED PRIOR TO SUBMITTING A REQUEST FORM.
Process: Once your request is received, GIS will review it and contact you if additional information is needed. Your request will then be entered into the database and you will receive an email confirmation with a Request Number for reference. When an interpreter is assigned, you will receive another email confirmation with the interpreter's name(s).
Cancellations: Clients will be billed in full for assignments not canceled two full business days in advance of the start of the assignment. Cancellation of conferences or on-going classes or assignments may require more notice in order to be canceled without charge. Contact GIS for details. All cancellations must be made in writing.
