Description: The CRPD is the first international human rights treaty to protect the human rights of people with disabilities and deaf people. Sign language is covered in several different articles of the CRPD, including Article 1 (Purpose), Article 2 (Definitions), Article 3 (General Principles), Article 9 (Accessibility), Article 21 (Freedom of expression and opinion, and access to information), Article 24 (Education), and Article 30 (Participation in cultural life, recreation, and sport). The CRPD protects the rights of both signing and non-signing deaf and hard of hearing people to have access to information and communication in whatever modalities is most effective for them. Guide to the UNCRPD (by the European Union of the Deaf)
Description: The European Union of the Deaf (EUD) produced this DVD, which explains the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in both English and in international signs. In addition to providing basic information about the CRPD and the ratification process, it also emphasizes discussion of the articles in the CRPD that cover sign language. This DVD can be purchased from EUD for 10 Euros.

Disabled Peoples International (DPI) Ratification and Implementation Toolkits
Description: This toolkit was written to support efforts by mine action centers to advocate for the ratification and implementation of the CRPD. It explains how a Mine Action Center can support the ratification and implementation process and shares tips on how to encourage the media to portray people with disabilities in a more accurate manner. Includes sample letters to government officials urging them to ratify the CRPD and a list of more resources and websites. Available in English, Spanish, French, and Arabic.

Description: This 10-page document explains the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the Optional Protocol. It summarizes some of the human rights the CRPD is meant to protect. It also describes how the CRPD can be implemented and monitored and how the CRPD was first developed.
