Summer Internship Opportunities

We are offering up to four summer internship positions for deaf or hard-of-hearing undergraduate students for summer 2014.

This year's projects are (1) using computer science (bioinformatics) to study the molecular genetics of a common deafness gene, connexin 26, with Dr. Derek Braun  and (2) studying the ecological health of the Anacostia River, a tributary that is part of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem, with Dr. Caroline Solomon.

This internship will begin May, 2014 and end August 1, 2014. We will begin accepting applications on February 1 and continue until positions are filled. Interns will receive a stipend of $450 per week, and paid-for housing in a campus dormitory.

Our newly constructed laboratory facilities are staffed and managed by deaf faculty and technicians. Faculty are leading research projects in genetics, environmental science, and cell and cancer biology.

This marks our sixth year of offering summer internships. Since 2008, we have trained 19 summer interns. We have had students in our laboratories from Gallaudet University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Assumption College, University of Arizona, Tarleton State University, Western Michigan University, University of South Florida, University of North Florida, and Hogeschool Leiden in past years. We encourage students from all around the country to apply.
