Mission Statement & Outcomes of Student Success


Mission Statement:

Student Success supports the University's Standards of Learning and Bilingual mission by increasing the retention of students through:

  • Identifying students in need of additional academic or social support.
  • Providing initial instructional experiences to bolster requisite academic skills.
  • Providing intense academic preparation for college aligned with the General Studies learning outcomes.
  • Providing initial American Sign Language instruction and deaf history for Non-signers. 
  • Orienting families of new students to the requirements and expectations of undergraduate life.
  • Providing additional individual support and peer mentoring to students during their first year of college. 

Student Success Paraprofessional Outcomes:


  • Understand and apply leadership, ethics, morals, and values.
  • Develop and use listening skills with their mentees. 

Peer Mentorship:

  • Understand and apply leadership, ethics, morals, and values.
  • Develop and use executive skills with their mentees.

Student Learning Outcomes:


  • Develop comprehension of American Sign Language.
  • Develop knowledge of deaf identity and culture.
  • Exhibit connection and application of knowledge developed across classroom, residential, and other learning environments.
  • Demonstrate an ability to identify campus resources and services.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of resources for financial aid.

Peer Mentorship:

  • Demonstrate the ability to engage with peers, faculty, and staff.
  • Develop and use study strategies and executive skills.
  • Express at least two ways in which their experience as a mentee supported their academic/personal development.
