Giving to Gallaudet

Thank You for your support of Gallaudet University!

Your gift contributes to Gallaudet's mission in providing an outstanding liberal arts education, career development and graduate programs for deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students.

Whether you decide to support Gallaudet by making an annual gift, a special gift, or a planned gift, your involvement shows a powerful commitment to the mission and values of the University. Gallaudet gratefully accepts and acknowledges gifts made by corporations and foundations as well. We recognize gifts-in-kind and corporate matching gifts.

Why Your Support Is Needed

In the past, Gallaudet received 100% federal funding, over time this figure has been decreasing. Currently, Gallaudet receives approximately 70% of its funding from the federal government and none to support capital projects, making private support even more important. Gallaudet strives to increase private support from individuals like you so we can maintain the quality of our programs while still keeping tuition costs affordable for students. Your gift goes a long way in making this happen.

Contributing to our success

Many people have supported Gallaudet in a variety of different and important ways. You, and people like you from across the country and around the world who have made this investment, share in the success and accomplishments of this University and its students.

Campaign for Gallaudet's Future

Today, Gallaudet finds itself in a most enviable position. The University has completed an ambitious campaign: The Campaign for Gallaudet's Future. Gallaudet has secured $31 millionto fund the James Lee Sorenson Language and Communication Center (SLCC) and fund the I. King Jordan Chair in Leadership.

The James Lee Sorenson Language and Communication Center will reflect Gallaudet's ongoing commitment to academic excellence, and serve as a model of the unique needs of deaf people. After months of discussions among deaf and hearing members of the campus community and architects, a visucentric concept was born. The concept was translated into the design of a distinctive structure that clearly and unmistakably says: "This is a space for deaf people."

Just as the SLCC represents the bold new direction in which the University is headed, so too does the I. King Jordan Chair in Leadership. The leadership chair was created in honor of Dr. Jordan, in recognition of his 19 years of service to Gallaudet as president. Endowing an academic chair in Dr. Jordan's name is by far the best way to recognize his years of exceptional leadership. The privately funded Chair will provide opportunities for seasoned scholars and successful institutional leaders to come to Gallaudet to create and share new knowledge in disciplines that are important to deaf people around the world.
