Language Advice

Language Advisors work with undergraduate and graduate students who want help with all kinds of academic writing, reading and signing. Using English and/or ASL, Language Advisors give feedback and offer guidance on coursework, research papers, essays, abstracts, summaries, classroom presentations, book reviews, as well as business writing such as letters, reports, proposals and resumes.

While Language Advisors do NOT edit or proofread papers, they do make suggestions on how students can make changes to their own writing projects in the areas of organization, grammar, vocabulary and clear communication.

Short reports are sent to teachers if Language Advisors assist students with graded assignments. We do not provide feedback on take-home exams.

Available by walk-in. If a paper is longer than four pages, a student may have to make an appointment for writing advice. This gives the Language Advisor time to prepare for the session.

Location: SAC 1221

Hours: Monday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Supplemental Instruction

We provide additional review sessions for historically difficult courses. Visit our Supplemental Instruction website for more information.

ASL Lab is a partnership between the Department of ASL and Deaf Studies and Tutorial & Instructional Programs (TIP) that was created to help ensure success among the students taking ASL 101 and 102. ASL Lab is a safe place where students can practice their ASL skills and get constructive feedback.

ASL Lab is led by qualified ASL Lab Leaders who are Tutors and ASL Majors. These leaders attend classes with the students to stay current with classroom topics and to become more familiar with classroom dynamics, management, and instructor expectations.

To get more information about ASL Lab, contact Sanremi LaRue in SAC 2232
