As an SI leader, you will receive valuable training in addition to teaching and tutoring experience that can help solidify your subject knowledge and understanding of key course concepts. If you are interested in graduate school or are studying to become a teacher, being an SI leader offers you an excellent introduction to these fields. Job Description

SI leaders who facilitate the SI sessions are critical to the effectiveness of the program. SI leaders are undergraduate, graduate students, or alumni who have previously excelled in targeted courses. The leaders attend a mandatory training workshop at the beginning of each semester. Training includes topics such as how learning occurs as well as instructional strategies aimed at strengthening the student's overall academic performance. SI leaders are trained to serve as group facilitators thus preparing students to become independent learners. An SI leader is a person who already has experienced and excelled in a specific course and is willing to help a group of students to expand their skills/knowledge and explain the instructor's lectures and such.

Who Can Apply:
  • Undergraduate, graduate student, or recent alumni
  • Have attended Gallaudet for at least one year
  • Prove competency in a content area

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
  • Completed targeted courses with a B or better
  • Possess good interpersonal communication skills
  • Previous tutoring experience preferred
